SHAWINIGAN – Cameron Askew scored 52 seconds into overtime to give the Shawinigan Cataractes a 3-2 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs, Saturday at Centre Gervais Auto.
Gabriel Sylvestre and Antoine Demers also scored for Shawinigan (7-10-1-0), which have won two straight games.
Ostap Safin had a goal and an assist for Saint John (4-11-4-1) while Joe Veleno also found the net. Anthony Boucher added two assists.

The Sea Dogs scored the opening goal on a power play nearly two minutes into the first period.
Safin took a pass in the right circle and whistled a wrist shot over the blocker of Lucas Fitzpatrick in the Cataractes’ goal.
Veleno made it a 2-0 game with another power play marker with 9.2 seconds left in the period.
Safin fed a pass from the right side to Veleno in the high slot. The Saint John captain sent a slap shot beyond Fitzpatrick’s glove.
Shawinigan got one back just over a minute into the second period when Sylvestre took a pass in the high slot and rifled a wrist shot past the glove of goalie Alex D’Orio.
The Cataractes carried play in the third period and tied the game with under five minutes left.
Sylvestre sent a wrist shot from the right point the was stopped by D’Orio. Demers bunted the rebound past the goalie’s right leg to make it 2-2.
Askew’s game-winner came on the first shift of overtime.
The American winger took the puck to the bottom of the right circle and snapped a shot over D’Orio’s blocker and under the crossbar to give Shawinigan the come-from-behind win.
Fitzpatrick made 30 stops and was named first star. D’Orio took the loss with 32 saves.
Sylvestre’s two points warranted a second-star selection while Safin’s goal and assist made him third star in front of 2,934 fans in attendance.
