SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs are proud to announce longtime Head Equipment Manager, David “DK” Kelly, has been promoted to the new position of Special Advisor to Hockey Operations.
Kelly, a native of Saint John, was in his thirteenth season as the only head equipment manager in Sea Dogs’ history, having worked 805 regular season games. He helped the team to three President Cup titles and the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup Championship.
Prior to his time with the Sea Dogs, Kelly spent time with the Waco Wizards (WPHL), Milano Vipers (Italy) and Bracknell Bees (British Super League). He began his career as a visiting team dressing room attendant with the AHL Saint John Flames, and was eventually promoted to assistant equipment manager. He also worked extensively with Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence.
Kelly’s new responsibilities include providing hockey insights, spearheading Sea Dogs alumni initiatives and assisting with other special projects. He will also lead the launch of the new Sea Dogs Hall of Fame, plans for which were announced earlier this year.
“DK has so much experience behind the bench and in the room,” said Sea Dogs President and General Manager Trevor Georgie. “We are excited to have his expertise, knowledge, and experience join us in the front office.”
Georgie continued: “This is a great accomplishment. He deserves this, and he will have the opportunity to make an even greater impact on the future of the Sea Dogs in his role.”
“I’d like to thank my family, and Scott McCain and the Sea Dogs ownership past and present,” Kelly began. “Also, the board of directors, Governor Joe Richard, all the managers, coaches, staff, players, media, Bruce Smith, Jeff Kelly, and my team of George Ferguson, Nathan Belliveau and Justin Oram, plus our suppliers and everyone around the QMJHL for the past 13 years. I look forward to and count on everyone’s continued support going into this new chapter.”
Kelly will begin his new role immediately.
