DESROCHES ADDS SOLO MARKER AS HUSKIES ROUTE SEA DOGS
The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies showed why they’re #1 in the QMJHL on Saturday night as they downed the Saint John Sea Dogs 7-1.
The Huskies opened the scoring at 1:07 on a goal from Patrik Hrehorcak with the assist coming from the league leader in assists, Peter Abbandonato. Mathieu Gagnon added another at 6:52 to put the Huskies up 2-0. Rouyn-Noranda led in shots, 19-6.
In the second period the Sea Dogs held their own to keep it close before succumbing to the Huskies power play at 13:07 when Alex Beaucage scored his first of three in the game. Saint John did have a flurry of chances midway through the second on a series of power plays at 1:51, 6:56 and 9:34 but couldn’t beat the undefeated Zachary Emond. A scrum resulted in Michael Campoli and Patrik Hrehorcak going off for roughing penalties at 18:10. The Huskies out shot the Sea Dogs 17-9 in the period.
The third period saw Alex Beaucage complete his hat trick with goals at 2:34 and 5:46 which prompted Mikhail Denisov’s night between the pipes to come to an end. Tommy DaSilva took over duties at 5:46. Despite the score board Denisov was excellent at times, finishing with 37 saves. At 8:46 rookie Charlie DesRoches snapped home his sixth of the season and third in as many games to ruin the shutout and make it 6-1 Huskies. Charlie is now tied for first in goals by rookie defencemen in the QMJHL. Josh Lawrence and William Dufour received roughing penalties at 16:54 after getting in each others face near centre ice. Peter Abbandonato added another at 17:04 for the final score of 7-1. Shots on goal in the third favoured the Huskies, 14-11.
Mikhail Denisov and Tommy DaSilva combined for 43 saves. Zachary Emond stayed perfect on the season, turning away 25.
