Matt Green and Kevin Gursoy scored three points each as the Sea Dogs improved to 2-0-0-0 in the 2018 pre-season, beating Acadie-Bathurst for the second time in three nights, 5-1.
The Titan opened the scoring at 3:20 of the first period when Alexandre David converted on the powerplay beating Stewart Bagnell. Aiden Macintosh quickly responded for the Dogs during a stretch of 4 on 4, scoring just over a minute later on a pass from Jeremie Jacob.
Overager Matt Green scored his first of the night at 13:29 of the second period to make it 2-1 with helpers coming from Kevin Gursoy and new Sea Dog James White who signed with the club this past weekend. Green then returned the favor when he assisted on Gursoy’s power play goal at 6:28 of the third period to put the Dogs up 3-1. Defenceman Nathan Larose added his first of the season on another power play goal just over a minute later making it 4-1, a goal that saw rookie Jeremie Poirier mark his first point with the assist. Jeremie Poirier connected with Gursoy again near the end of the third period to make it 5-1. Gursoy who’s entering his second season with the Sea Dogs ended the night with two goals and an assist.
Rookie forward Dawson Stairs who officially committed to the Sea Dogs earlier today made his pre-season debut recording an assist, he finished +2 on the night.
Once again Stewart Bagnell and Tommy Da Silva split duties between the pipes combining for 28 saves in the win. Bagnell allowed the lone goal while turning aside 19 in 33 minutes of play. Da Silva has yet to allow a goal in two pre-season appearances, shutting out the Titan for 58 minutes over two games.
The Sea Dogs return to action tomorrow night against the Wildcats in Moncton at the Superior Propane Centre. Game time is set for 7PM.
