Alex D’Orio led the Baie-Comeau Drakkar to a 5-3 win over Saint John in his return to the Port City on Friday night. Saint John is now 11-33-2-1 while Baie-Comeau improves to 34-9-2-1.
The Drakkar opened the scoring at 5:25 of the first on an Ethan Crossman goal after a scramble in front of Denisov. Baie-Comeau thought they had a goal earlier when Ivan Chekhovich tucked it in at the side of the net but review determined the puck had gone under the net and was called back.
Jeremie Poirier tied it up with 50 seconds to go in the period on the power play when his shot from the top of the right circle beat D’Orio five hole.
The second was all Drakkar as they added two in the period on goals from Gabriel Fortier and Jordan Martel. Baie-Comeau led Saint John in shots 36-14 after two.
Sacha Roy scored at 7:17 of the third to make it 4-1 Baie-Comeau much to the chagrin of Sea Dogs fans. Roy drew some jeers earlier in game when he refused to drop the gloves with Christian Clark. Clark received a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and 10 minute unsportsmanlike misconduct.
Maxim Cajkovic scored his 14th of the year on a shot from the blueline that found its way through a maze of Drakkar and past D’Orio to make it 4-2.
Vegas Golden Knights prospect Xavier Bouchard scored on a blast from the blueline at 13:55 on the power play to put the Drakkar up by three.
Josh Lawrence had a beauty goal with just over five minutes to go in the game when he was all alone in front and out waited D’Orio before moving to the right and burying home his seventh of the season to make it 5-3 Baie-Comeau.
Denisov would be pulled for the extra attacker with a minute to go but Baie-Comeau held on for the 5-3 win.
D’Orio had 17 saves in his return to Saint John, Denisov stopped 40 for the Sea Dogs.
