The Sea Dogs opened the scoring six minutes into the game on their first shot on goal.
Anthony Boucher created a turnover behind the Halifax goal. William Poirier grabbed the loose puck and knifed a pass in front to a wide-open Pare. The Boston Bruins’ prospect snapped a quick shot past a surprised Blade Mann-Dixon in the Mooseheads’ goal. Pare has scored in two straight games.
Halifax tied the game more than four minutes later when a shot from the right side was deflected by Fortier and sent trickling across the goal line.
That prompted a rain of teddy bears on Teddy Bear Toss Night at Scotiabank Centre.
The home side took the lead with 15.6 seconds left in the period when Durandeau grabbed his own rebound near the right wing side of the goal, took the puck behind the net and stuffed a backhander inside the right post for a power play goal.
Gursoy evened the score again with a 5-on-3 power play strike with under four minutes remaining in the middle frame.
Ostap Safin stepped out from the right corner and ripped a quick wrist shot that went off Mann-Dixon’s left arm and off the crossbar. The puck bounced down into the crease where Gursoy batted it into the open net.
Somppi gave Halifax the lead again three minutes into the third, finishing off a Fortier pass with a snap shot from the slot that beat goalie Matt Williams on his glove side.
Fortier’s second of the night made it a 4-2 game with under six minutes remaining.
As the teams skated 4-on-4, the Halifax captain took a drop pass in the high slot and whistled a wrist shot past the glove of Williams.
Lavoie concluded the scoring with an empty-net goal with 11.1 seconds to go.
Mann-Dixon got the win with 23 saves. Williams was named third star in a losing cause with 35 stops.
Fortier’s four points made him first star while Somppi snared second star with a goal and an assist in front of 8,518 fans in attendance.
The Sea Dogs’ next home game is Friday, February 2nd, at 7 p.m. against the Charlottetown Islanders at Harbour Station. Tickets are available at the Harbour Station Box Office and online.
