SAINT JOHN, NB The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has unveiled its 2011 pre-season schedule, with the Saint John Sea Dogs set to skate in five exhibition matches in August and September.
The Dogs will be the home side for three of the five contests, with one being staged at the new “qplex” in Quispamsis. The $24-million multi-purpose recreation and conference centre, located on Randy Jones Way between Meenans Cove Road and Vincent Road, will play host to a game against the Prince Edward Island Rocket on Aug. 27. The Saturday evening matchup is scheduled for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
“Our great fans stretch beyond the Saint John city limits,” said Sea Dogs President Wayne Long. “Hundreds of dedicated supporters from the Kennebecasis Valley and other nearby areas travel to see our games all season long. The qplex is an incredible facility and a new focal point for the community in Quispamsis and the surrounding areas. This is a great opportunity to take a major junior game right to their backyard.”
Saint John’s other home games will take place on Saturday, Aug. 20, against the Moncton Wildcats, and Wednesday, Aug. 31, against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at Harbour Station, both 7 p.m. starts. The Sea Dogs will open their pre-season on Friday, Aug. 19 in Moncton. A full 2011 exhibition schedule can be found below:
