RETURNEES LIFT SEA DOGS TO FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

BOISBRIAND, QUE. – As returning players continue to give the lineup a lift, the Saint John Sea Dogs won their fourth straight game, 3-1 over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada Wednesday.

Ryan Tesink, Tomas Jurco and Nathan Beaulieu – all making their returns from NHL camps – scored the Saint John goals. Zack Phillips picked up assists on all three and Mathieu Corbeil stopped 29 shots for the win.

The Sea Dogs improved to 4-3 as they made their first visit to Blainville-Boisbriand, the third incarnation of their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League expansion cousins. Originally the St. John’s Fog Devils, the Armada played as the Montreal Junior before moving to the nearby suburb of Boisbriand.

Raphael Pouliot had the lone Armada goal and William Racicot made 20 saves in the loss. Blainville-Boisbriand, losers of five straight, fell to 3-5.

After a scoreless first period, Tesink opened the scoring on a 3-on-2 at 12:01 of the middle frame, with assists from Phillips and Jurco. It was the first goal of the season for Tesink, who was playing his first QMJHL game of the year along with fellow St. Louis Blues prospect Stephen MacAulay, and Detroit Red Wings draftee Jurco.

Pouliot banged in a rebound at 14:50 to make it 1-1, but Jurco put the Dogs back in front at 19:22. The slick Slovakian was parked in front and potted a rebound to give the Sea Dogs a 2-1 lead. Beaulieu and Phillips recorded assists on the play.

Beaulieu added the insurance marker on the power play at 1:47 of the third. Beaulieu, fresh from Montreal Canadiens camp, unloaded a one-timer from above the faceoff circles that beat Pouliot for his first of the season in his third QMJHL game of the year.

The road trip continues as the Dogs visit the Drummondville Voltigeurs Friday and the Victoriaville Tigres Saturday. Tim Roszell will have the call on News 88.9 FM. Fans can also catch all the action online via the official TELUS QMJHL webcast (click HERE to order; charges apply).
