SALDA NAMED TO QMJHL ROOKIE ALL-STAR TEAM

Saint John Sea Dogs defenceman Radim Salda has been named to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s 2017-18 rookie all-star team.

Salda was one of six players – and only two defencemen – to recieve a rookie all-star nod. The honour was announced at Wednesday night’s QMJHL Golden Puck Awards held in Brossard, Que.

Salda was selected by the Sea Dogs in the second round (113th overall) of the 2017 CHL Import Draft. The Czech Republic native went on to lead all QMJHL rookie defenceman in scoring and finish second in Sea Dogs team scoring with 10 goals and 31 assists in 62 games.

The 19-year-old also appeared in seven games with the Czech Republic at the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo where he was held pointless.

At the Sea Dogs’ annual awards banquet last month, Salda was recognized with the Sun Life Global Investments Top Defenceman Award.

Goaltender Colten Ellis (Rimouski Océanic); defenceman Justin Barron (Halifax Mooseheads); and forwards Alexis Lafrenière (Rimouski Océanic), Jakob Pelletier (Moncton Wildcats) and Filip Zadina (Halifax Mooseheads) were also named to the league’s rookie all-star squad.
