SAINT JOHN – Saint John Sea Dogs General Manager Darrell Young announced today the team has added right winger Sam Povorozniouk from the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires.
The 20-year-old from Northbrook, Illinois, had 15 goals and 39 points in 68 games for Windsor last season. In four OHL seasons with the Spitfires, Kingston Frontenacs and Saginaw Spirit, he totaled 47 goals and 121 points in 249 games.
Povorozniouk, 5’10’ and 193 lbs., was a second-round pick (36th overall) by the Spirit in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection.
“We’re excited to add Sam to our team,” Young said. “He scored nearly twenty goals in each of the last two seasons and he played four years in the OHL. We looked at our club and saw a need to add more experience. Sam brings that here, and we believe he’s a good fit for our team.”
Povorozniouk is expected to join the team in time for the start of training camp on Monday.
The training camp roster sits at 61 players: 8 goaltenders, 19 defencemen and 34 forwards. These figures include defencemen Jakub Zboril and Oliver Felixson, who will arrive after training camp begins.
