SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs announced three roster moves Sunday as the team welcomes back several veterans returning from NHL camps.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team has re-assigned forwards Brock Morrison and Colin Campbell to their junior A teams. Meanwhile, defenceman Rory Craddock has returned home indefinitely in order to rehabilitate an injury.
Morrison and Campbell were called on to play key roles up front with the team missing as many as 13 veterans to NHL camps at one point. Morrison, an 18-year-old from Howie Centre, N.S., led the team with four pre-season goals, and followed up with two goals and an assist in four regular-season games. Campbell, also 18, from Sydney, N.S., chipped in two assists in four games.
Craddock was signed as a free agent to bolster the blueline ranks and appeared in two games before being injured. There is no timetable for the 19-year-old Oshawa, Ont., native’s return.
All three players remain on Saint John’s protected list.
The active roster is getting closer to full strength, as just two players – Jonathan Huberdeau (Florida Panthers) and Nathan Beaulieu (Montreal Canadiens) remain in NHL camps. Forwards Stanislav Galiev (Washington Capitals) and Zack Phillips (Minnesota Wild), defenceman Pierre Durepos (Los Angeles Kings) and goalie Mathieu Corbeil (Columbus Blue Jackets) returned to the lineup on the weekend. Forwards Tomas Jurco (Detroit Red Wings), Stephen MacAulay and Ryan Tesink (St. Louis Blues) are also back in Saint John and expected to join the team for its upcoming road trip.
Saint John hits the road for a three-game Quebec swing, beginning against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Wednesday. The Dogs visit the Drummondville Voltigeurs Friday and the Victoriaville Tigres Saturday. Tim Roszell will have the call on News 88.9 FM.
