The first period opened the game with a lot of intensity from the boys in black. Justin Dickinson and Kyle Haas dropped the gloves in a spirited tilt deep in the Moncton zone, exchanging rapid-fire rights in a flurry.

Saint John responded with a lot of energy, leading to a great chance by Andreas Tosgkas. A high, quick wrist-shot nearly fooled Dubeau, but he got a blocker on it and turned it aside.

Another flurry of chances for the Sea Dogs late in the period was stymied by the scambling play of Dubeau and his defencemen. The Dogs had two chances stopped by Dubeau, first with the pads, then with the stick as he spun in the crease. The third chance in the barrage was blocked by the Moncton d-man to keep the game tied.

The Sea Dogs outshot the Wildcats 13-8 in the first.

Moncton opened the scoring with the referees arm in the air for a delayed penalty at 1:44 of the first.

Things went from bad to worse for the Sea Dogs as they were handed a major and a minor penalty at 2:34. Moncton capitalized three times during the power play span.

Their first came at 3:13 from Danault, the second at 4:33 from Lalonde made it 3-0 and the third was scored by Alex Saulnier.

Moncton extended their lead on a goal from Penny at 8:38, making it 5-0 Wildcats.

Shots in the second were 13-3.

The third period didn’t start very well either for the Sea Dogs. Saulnier scored again just 23 seconds in to make it 6-0.

Moncton added one more on the power play as Johnston put home his second of the game at 19:25 with the man-advantage.

The Sea Dogs are away to face the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Fans can catch all the away action by tuning in to Tim Roszell on News 88.9 FM or the TELUS QMJHL Webcast.
