HALIFAX – The Saint John Sea Dogs were nearly shutout by the Halifax Mooseheads in the seventh meeting between the clubs in 2012-13. The Moose took a 6-1 decision in Friday’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.
Jakub Izacky scored with only nine seconds to go to break the Halifax shutout bid. Alex Fournier stopped 27 of 33 shots in net for the Sea Dogs. Saint John dropped to 21-36-1-0.
Andrew Ryan had two goals and Stefan Fournier and Darcy Ashley each had a goal and an assist for Halifax. Jonathan Drouin had three assists and Luca Ciampini and Brent Andrews also scored for the Moose. Zachary Fucale could not hold on for the shutout, stopping 13 of 14 shots. Halifax climbed to 48-6-2-1 on the year.
Saint John held on for the first 13 minutes of the game, but it unraveled in a hurry. At 13:31, Fournier put in the opening goal of the game with only one second remaining in the Mooseheads man advantage.
Just 12 seconds later, Ryan extended the lead to 2-0 Halifax with his first of the night.
Fournier held Dogs in the game in the first as they were outshot 16-4 in the opening frame.
A last second penalty in the first gave the Moose a power play to start the second period and they capitalized, again with only seconds remaining. At 1:54 of the frame, with only 5 seconds remaining in the man advantage, Ciampini put home the goal to make it 3-0.
Ryan scored his second of the night at 7:29.
Andrews tallied at 13:34 of the second to make it 5-0 and Ashley potted the final Halifax goal at 14:16 with a power play goal.
Izacky broke the shutout bid with only nine seconds remaining in the game for his 19th of the season. Stephen Anderson and Oliver Cooper tallied assists on the play.
