SEA DOGS FALL TO WILDCATS IN FINAL GAME OF 2017
SAINT JOHN – Kevin Gursoy scored the only goal for the Saint John Sea Dogs in a 5-1 loss to the Moncton Wildcats, Sunday at Moncton Coliseum, in the final game of 2017.
Jeremy McKenna paced the Moncton (16-16-3-3) offence with two shorthanded goals and an assist. Jakob Pelletier, Adam Capannelli and Daniil Miromanov also found the net.
It was the last regular season appearance for Saint John (11-20-5-2) at the Moncton Coliseum, with the Wildcats slated to play in their new facility in 2018-19.

Moncton opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal three minutes into the game.
McKenna carried the puck down the left wing on a 2-on-1 and ripped a wrist shot that went off the glove of goalie Alex D’Orio and into the net.
It became a 2-0 game with six minutes left in the period, during a delayed penalty against Saint John.
A shot from the right point was deflected into the left circle. Quispamsis-native Anderson MacDonald fed Pelletier in the slot, and the rookie winger slid the puck through D’Orio’s legs.
Fifty-three seconds later, Capannelli charged the net and had a puck deflect off his skate and inside the left post.
Gursoy got the Sea Dogs on the board with a power play goal with 2.8 seconds remaining in the period.
The free-agent signee from Windsor, Ontario, carried the puck into the right circle and rifled a hard wrist shot past the glove of goalie Mark Grametbauer for a short-side goal.
There was no further scoring until more than a minute into the third, when McKenna drove down the left wing and slipped the puck between the legs of D’Orio for his second shorthanded goal of the night.
Miromanov concluded the scoring with eight minutes left, while the teams skated 4-on-4.
The former Acadie-Bathurst Titan whistled a wrister from the right circle that went off the left post and in.
Grametbauer earned the win with 19 saves. D’Orio turned aside 34 shots and added an assist in a losing cause.
McKenna’s three points made him first star while Pelletier’s goal prompted a second-star selection. Miromanov was named third star in front of 5,882 fans in attendance.
