SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs have recalled affiliate player and goaltender Christopher Smith from the St. John’s Privateers of the Newfoundland & Labrador Major Midget Hockey League.
Smith, 6-1 and 165 lbs., was selected in the fifth round (77th overall) of the 2013 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft.
The 17-year-old St. John’s-native played 14 games for the Privateers this season, registering a 1-11 record with a 5.29 goals-against average.
Smith is expected to be in uniform for Friday’s game against the Rimouski Oceanic.
In a corresponding roster move, the Sea Dogs have reassigned affiliate player and goaltender Chase Gaudet to the Yarmouth Mariners of the Maritime Junior ‘A’ Hockey League.
Gaudet, 19, dressed for three games for Saint John during last week’s road trip through Quebec. He made his Sea Dogs’ debut Saturday, stopping 41 shots in a 6-1 loss against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
