SEA DOGS WIN STREAK ENDED BY CATARACTES
SAINT JOHN – Mikhail Denisov turned aside 25 shots to lead the Shawinigan Cataractes to a 3-0 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs Saturday at Harbour Station.
The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak for Saint John (35-13-3-1) in front of 5,958 fans, the largest crowd of the season. Mathieu Joseph’s league-high and team-record points streak also ended at 28 games with 19 goals and 46 points.
Alexis D’Aoust, Brandon Gignac and Dennis Yan scored for Shawinigan (34-14-3-1), which snapped a two-game slide.

The Cataractes got the only goal of the opening period more than four minutes in.
Cameron Askew carried the puck in on the right side of the Sea Dogs’ zone and dropped a pass to D’Aoust. The overage forward rifled a heavy wrist shot past the glove of Callum Booth in the Saint John goal.
The visitors doubled their lead with four minutes left in the second when Gignac potted the rebound of a long shot from the left wing.
The Sea Dogs struck out on three power play chances in the early and middle portions of the third.
Yan wrapped up the scoring into an empty net with more than three minutes left.
Denisov earned his third shutout of the season and was named second star. Booth made 17 stops in a losing cause.
D’Aoust took first star while Sea Dog centre Nathan Noel grabbed third star.
