Currently 10-2-0-1 on the season, the Saint John Sea Dogs will kick off a six-game road trip this coming weekend when they take on a pair of Maritime Division rivals on consecutive evenings. Saint John will journey to northern New Brunswick on Friday night (puck drop – 7:30pm) to battle the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre prior to visiting the Halifax Metro Centre on Saturday for a 7:00pm showdown with the Mooseheads. Both of this weekend’s road contests will be broadcast live by Tim Roszell at News 88.9 FM, with TELUS set to stream each match online via the official QMJHL webcast.
Friday’s match will mark the first time that Saint John and Acadie-Bathurst will have met head-to-head this season. The Sea Dogs won all eight of their matchups with the Titan in 2009-10, outscoring their regional adversaries 47-19 in the process. Michael Kirkpatrick (7GP-7G-6A-13P), Stanislav Galiev (8GP-3G-8A-11P), Nathan Beaulieu (8GP-1G-10A-11P), Simon Després (7GP-3G-4A-7P), and Kevin Gagné (7GP-1G-6A-7P) all averaged a point-per-game or better versus Acadie-Bathurst last year.
The Sea Dogs have defeated the Mooseheads twice already this season, by a score 5-2 at Harbour Station on September 18 and by a score of 4-3 at the Metro Centre on October 1. Rookie forward Ryan Tesink has tallied 2GP-1G-3A-4P versus Halifax this year to go along with a highly-impressive +5 rating. Tesink is +11 overall this season, good for second place on the team behind sophomore scoring sensation Jonathan Huberdeau (+12). Huberdeau currently leads all Sea Dogs skaters in points with 17 (9G-8A) in 13 games played. The 17-year-old St-Jerome, QC native is on pace to finish the 10-11 campaign with 47G-42A-89P.
Following Saturday’s tilt with the Mooseheads the Port City’s major junior squad will embark upon an arduous four-game trek to western Quebec that will include a pair of games against both the Val-d’Or Foreurs (Oct. 27 & 29) and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (Oct. 30 & 31. Saint John’s next home game is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 5 at 7:30pm versus the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (click HERE for tickets).
