VELENO NAMED TO U18 SELECTION CAMP ROSTER

SAINT JOHN – Forward Joe Veleno has been named to the selection camp roster for Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team.

Hockey Canada released a list of 44 players invited to the camp in Calgary late Tuesday. The camp, which begins in late July, is part of Hockey’s Canada’s Summer Showcase. Players named to the final roster will compete in the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Veleno, 17, totaled 13 goals and 40 points in 45 games in his second season with the Sea Dogs. The native of Kirkland, Quebec added eight goals and 11 points in 18 playoff games en route to a President Cup championship. He also had a team-leading three goals and one assist in four games at the 2017 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

This would be Veleno’s second trip to the Ivan Hlinka tournament. He posted four assists in four games as an underage player in the 2016 tournament last August.

Congratulations, Joe!
