VELENO TO RETURN TO WORLD UNDER-17 HOCKEY CHALLENGE

BOISBRIAND, QC,  and CALGARY – Saint John Sea Dogs forward Joe Veleno will compete in his second straight World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Hockey Canada today named 66 players that will be divided into three Canadian entries for the event: Canada Red, Canada White and Canada Black. Those rosters will be announced closer to the start of the tournament, which runs October 30th through November 5th in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

It will be Veleno’s second trip to the event. The 16-year-old from Kirkland, Quebec, played with Canada Black at last year’s tournament in British Columbia, posting one goal and four points in five games. He also had four assists in four games for Canada at the Under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament last summer.

Veleno, the first overall pick in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft, is in his second season with the Sea Dogs. He has one goal and seven points in seven games this year.

Sea Dogs assistant coach Paul Boutilier will be in Sault Ste. Marie as the head coach of Canada Black.
