VELENO WITHDRAWS FROM WORLD UNDER-17 HOCKEY CHALLENGE DUE TO INJURY

SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs announced today forward Joe Veleno has withdrawn from the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge due to a lower-body injury.

Veleno was scheduled to suit up for Canada White at the event, which begins later this week in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He participated in last year’s tournament as an underage player.

“Joe is disappointed and we are disappointed for him,” said Sea Dogs President and General Manager Trevor Georgie. “He was looking forward to playing in the Challenge a second time, and I know our organization and our fans were excited to see Joe on the world stage. In consultation with our medical staff, it was decided that Joe should rest and rehabilitate his injury here.”

The Sea Dogs will still be represented at the event by assistant coach Paul Boutilier, who will be in Sault Ste. Marie as the head coach of Canada Black.
