WORLD JUNIOR CHAMP COMTOIS LEADS TIGRES PAST SEA DOGS

VICTORIAVILLE – World Junior gold medalist Maxime Comtois scored twice and added an assist in his return to the lineup, leading the Victoriaville Tigres to a 5-2 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs, Thursday at Colisee Desjardins.

Vitalii Abramov had a goal and three assists for Victoriaville (20-15-4-2) while Felix Lauzon and Jeremie Beaudin also scored. Jimmy Huntington chipped in with three assists.

Ben Reid scored his first QMJHL goal for Saint John (11-22-6-2) while Cole Reginato also found the net.

A scoring summary is available HERE.

The Tigres opened the scoring nearly twelve minutes into the game when Comtois, playing his first game since winning a gold medal with Team Canada, finished off a 2-on-1 with a tap-in from the left side of the crease.

Victoriaville’s captain made it a 2-0 game nearly two minutes later.

Lauzon took a pass in the slot and fired a wrist shot that was deflected past the glove of Matthew Williams.

The home team extended its lead 65 seconds into the second when Beaudin came off the bench to take a pass on the right side, danced into the slot and whipped a wrist shot past Williams’ glove.

Reginato responded just over a minute later.

Yohan Plamondon raced down the left wing and found Nathan Larose in front of the goal. The pinching blueliner was checked, but still reached Reginato with a backdoor feed off the right side of the crease. The overager ripped a quick shot through the legs of Tristan Cote-Cazanave in the Victoriaville goal. Plamondon’s assist was his first point as a Sea Dog.

Comtois restored his team’s three-goal advantage with nine minutes to go in the period.

Abramov snapped a low shot from the right point that missed the net on the right side. The puck bounced off the end boards to the side of the goal where Comtois chipped it home.

Reginato left the game a short time later with a lower-body injury after a collision with Victoriaville forward Chase Harwell.

Abramov, who represented Russia at the World Juniors, capped a four-point night with a goal past the midway mark of the third.

He darted along the goal line from the right corner, took a pass near the crease and swept the puck under Williams to make it 5-1.

Reid’s first career goal came with two-and-a-half minutes remaining.

The Quispamsis-native took a pass in the right circle, deked to his right and slid the puck past Cote-Cazanave. Aiden McIntosh earned an assist on the goal for his first QMJHL point.

Cote-Cazanave made 16 saves in the victory. Williams turned aside 33 shots in the loss.

Comtois was named first star with his three points while Huntington’s three assists made him second star. Abramov took third star with four points in front of 1,687 fans in attendance.
