SEA DOGS SIGN D PAUL EDSON
SAINT JOHN – General Manager Darrell Young announced today the Saint John Sea Dogs have signed defenceman Paul Edson.
Edson, 16, played the last two seasons at St. John’s Prep high school in Danvers, Mass. In 2015-16, the native of Beverly, Mass., registered four goals and nine assists for 13 points in 23 games for the Eagles.
Listed at 6’3.5″ and 185 lbs, Edson scored the tournament-winning goal for St. John’s in the 2nd Annual Peter Frates Winter Classic. He helped his team become a Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Super 8 Division 1A State Finalist, and was named to the Salem News All Star Team.
Two years ago, he was part a state championship team with St. John’s and was named the Salem News Co-Rookie of the Year.
“We’ve been watching Paul for a couple of seasons now,” Young said. “He played for me at a tournament in Boston last spring. Our former scout, Peter Nevin, of the Chicago Blackhawks also saw him play in the summer of 2014. He is an impressive young man and a very good student-athlete.
“He’s big, physical defenceman who makes a good first pass. He’ll begin next season eighth on our depth chart and probably play 35-40 games as he adjusts to the major junior game. We expect him to be in our top six for his draft year of 2017-18 and continue his progression into our top four the following year.”
Edson will join the Sea Dogs in time for training camp in August.
