SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs are proud to announce the naming of Spencer Smallman as the team’s new captain.
Head Coach Danny Flynn unveiled his captain and alternates this morning.
Smallman is the 13th captain in franchise history.
Bokondji Imama, Samuel Dove-McFalls and Matthew Highmore were named alternate captains.
Flynn indicated there may be additions to the leadership group as the roster stabilizes, and throughout the season as well.
Smallman, 19, is in his fourth season with the Sea Dogs. The Fredericton-native was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft and attended their training camp. He was an alternate captain for Saint John last season. He will wear the “C” tonight in his season debut when the Sea Dogs take on the Charlottetown Islanders.
Imama, 19, is entering his first full season with Saint John. The Montreal-native was a sixth round pick (180th overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning. He returned to the team this week from his NHL training camp and will also play his first game of the season tonight.
Dove-McFalls, 18, is in his third season with the Sea Dogs. The forward from Montreal returned to the team this week after attending training camp with the Philadelphia Flyers, which selected him in the fourth round (98th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. He had an assist in Saint John’s season opening victory against the Halifax Mooseheads earlier this month. He was an alternate captain last season.
Highmore, 19, has played four games for Saint John in his fourth campaign, registering two goals and four points. The centre from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, also served as an alternate captain for the Sea Dogs last year.
