SUBWAY GAME RECAP: Lawrence Scores Hat Trick in Return to Saint John

Josh Lawrence scored a hat trick against his former team as the Halifax Mooseheads (30-7-4-1) took the first half of back-to-back games against the Saint John Sea Dogs (14-26-1-1) 8-1 on Friday night. Brady Burns tallied the lone goal for the Sea Dogs.
Brody Fournier and Braeden MacPhee each tallied a goal and an assist in the win while Alexandre Doucet had a pair of assists.
Mathis Rousseau picked up the win for Halifax, making 23 saves while Ventsislav Shingarov made 31 in the Sea Dogs net.
The Mooseheads had the first scoring chance just over five minutes in with Evan Boucher putting a hard shot on off the rush that Shingarov made the initial save on and an even bigger stop on the rebound, kicking his right pad out to deny a trailing Lawrence.
Less than a minute later though, Fournier appeared to open the scoring, sneaking in behind the Sea Dogs defense and dekeing out Shingarov. However the play was reviewed and determined that the play was offside.
Just over a minute later, Doucet came close as Lawrence hit him with a pass in the slot that he put on net and got his own rebound on but Shingarov shut the door.
Logan Crosby put the game’s first goal on the board just 40 seconds later, similar to Fournier, getting in behind the Sea Dogs defense, this time onside, and put a great move on Shingarov for a 1-0 Mooseheads lead.
Shots after the first period were 12-7 for Halifax.
The Sea Dogs got on the board 41 seconds into the second period with Cole Burbidge feeding Burns in the slot on a 2-on-1 who fired the puck home to tie the game 1-1.
Burns and Burbidge almost converted another just under three minutes after with Burns putting a shot on from just inside the blue line that created a rebound that just hopped over Burbidge’s stick.
On the same sequence, Charlie DesRoches gathered the puck and walked around a Mooseheads defender for a shot from the slot, but Rousseau was equal to the task.
Five minutes later Reece Peitzsche found Fournier with a pass between two Sea Dogs in front who put it up and over Shingarov and this time the goal would stand to put Halifax in front 2-1.
The Mooseheads struck again just over a minute later with Brady Shultz walking in from the point and putting it top shelf past Shingarov to make it 3-1.
Lawrence padded Halifax’s lead with 43 seconds left in the frame, walking in from the corner and jamming the puck under Shingarov for the 4-1 goal.
Shots after the second were 29-19 for the Mooseheads.
7:24 into the third Fournier won a puck battle in front of the Sea Dogs net and slid a back door pass to MacPhee who tapped the puck in to make it 5-1 Mooseheads.
Halifax continued to swarm the Saint John net three minutes later and Owen Phillips cleaned up another loose puck in the crease to make it 6-1.
Lawrence scored two goals in the final six minutes to complete the hat trick and make it an 8-1 final.
Final shots were 39-24 for Halifax.
