DEAKIN-POOT’S HAT TRICK CAPS OFF 6-2 ROAD WIN OVER ARMADA

The Saint John Sea Dogs (6-11-1-0) began their Quebec road trip with a win, taking on the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (9-7-1-1) at Centre d’Excellence Sports Rousseau in Boisbriand.  It was a full team effort as 14 players on the Sea Dogs registered points, including a hat trick from Nicholas Deakin-Poot, in the 6-2 win on Saturday evening.

Maxim Cajkovic and Kale McCallum returned to the lineup, both playing in their first game since October 11th.

The Armada opened the scoring early.  Blake Richardson scored at 1:07, slipping past the Sea Dogs defense and sliding the puck through Zachary Bouthillier’s 5-hole.

The game was tied halfway through the period when Dawson Stairs ripped one past the Armada goalie, Olivier Adam, from right in front of the net at 9:48.

Matt Gould was sent to the box for tripping at 12:58.

With 4:63 remaining in the period, Nicholas Deakin-Poot gave the Dogs the lead by redirecting a shot from the point by Jérémie Poirier, scoring his eighth goal of the season.

Shots at the end of the first were 13-12 for Blainville-Boisbriand.

The Sea Dogs got their first power play of the game when Simon Lavigne was sent off for cross-checking at 1:11.

Blainville-Boisbriand’s Luke Henman tied the game back up at two with a goal at 7:37.

Half a minute later, some shoving by the Sea Dogs net after a shot attempt by the Armada caused four penalties to be called.  Maxim Cajkovic, Jordan Spadafore, Luke Henman and Yaroslav Likhachev were all given roughing minors at 7:55. All of the penalties were offsetting and the play remained 5-on-5.

Adam Capanelli of the Armada was called for holding at 10:45.

Ben Badalamenti scored an even strength just as the penalty expired at 12:51, sending a rebound from William Villeneuve to the back of the net.

Jérémie Poirier was sent to the box for cross-checking at 13:23.

Shots at the end of the second period were 29-27 for Saint John.

The third period began 4-on-4 because of two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties given to Jordan Spadafore and Nicholas Blagden with five seconds remaining in the second period.  Nicholas Deakin-Poot took advantage of the extra space.  He carried the puck into the Armada’s zone from the far blue line and shot the it top shelf, scoring his second of the game 13 seconds into the final period.

Another set of roughing penalties were given to James White and Nicholas Blagden after some shoving by the Sea Dogs net at 3:21. Nicholas Blagden was also given a ten-minute misconduct for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play.

Nicholas Deakin-Poot joined them in the box two seconds later, sending the Armada to a 4-on-3 advantage for 1:58.

At 5:46 Maxim Bykov was given a penalty for charging and his teammate Simon Lavigne joined him at 6:21, giving the Sea Dogs the 5-on-3 advantage.

Nicholas Deakin-Poot scored his third goal of the game with the two-man advantage, tipping in a shot by Maxim Cajkovic at 6:54.

The Armada pulled their goalie in an attempt to close the three-goal gap and Matt Gould scored an empty net insurance goal with 2:35 remaining in the game.

Shots at the end of the game were 42-37 for Blainville-Boisbriand.
