SEA DOGS EXACT REVENGE WITH 4-3 WIN OVER ISLANDERS

The Saint John Sea Dogs improved to 20-19-1-0, defeating the Charlottetown Islanders (22-14-5-0) in their second meeting in as many nights. After falling behind in a penalty-riddled second period, the Sea Dogs bounced back with two power play goals by Dawson Stairs and Joshua Roy in the third period, winning the game 4-3.

Zachary Bouthillier and Matthew Welsh got the starts in net. Bouthillier stopped 29 of 32 shots sent his way in the 4-3 win on Saturday night at TD Station.

The Sea Dogs got on the scoreboard first, when Josh Lawrence put himself in front of the net, picked up the rebound of an attempt by Jeffrey Durocher and pushed the loose puck past Welsh and into the net for his 9th goal of the season at 8:49.

Three minutes later, Lawrence struck again, picking up a pass from Joshua Roy at the Islanders blue line and firing a rocket past Welsh to put the Sea Dogs up by two at 12:41.

The Islanders cut the lead to one at 16:35 on a goal by Lukas Cormier.

Shots after the first 20 minutes were 11-8 for the Sea Dogs

The Sea Dogs received four penalties in the second period, killing three of them. Kale McCallum was the first sent to the box, getting called for tripping at 3:47.

Josh Lawrence went to the box for hooking at 7:54. Thomas Casey tied the game up with a goal on the power play.

The Sea Dogs went on to successfully kill a slashing penalty to Josh Lawrence and a roughing call against James White.

A goal by Brett Budgell gave the Islanders the lead at 16:56.

Shots at the end of the second period were 22-16 for the Islanders.

The Sea Dogs got their first power play of the game 21 seconds into the third period when Lukas Cormier was sent off for a hit to the head against Josh Lawrence. Dawson Stairs tied the game up, picking up a long pass at the blue line from William Villeneuve from behind the goal line, speeding past the defenceman, and dekeing the puck past Matthew Welsh two minutes into the period.

A hooking call against Chris McQuaid sent the Sea Dogs to the power play for the second time of the night. Joshua Roy gave the Sea Dogs the lead on the power play, sending a one-timer past Matthew Welsh at 3:04.

A delay of game penalty to Jordan Spadafore sent the Sea Dogs to the penalty kill at 3:48.

Islanders forward Patrick LeBlanc was sent to the box for tripping at 12:55.

The Islanders pulled their goalie and called a time out, but the Sea Dogs held onto their lead and won the game 4-3.

The final shot count was 32-20 for the Islanders.

The Sea Dogs will take on the Cape Breton Eagles at 7PM on Wednesday January 8th at TD Station.  The two teams have met three times this season, with the Eagles taking the first two and the Sea Dogs winning their most recent matchup.  Tickets are available at the TD Station Box office and online.
