16-year-old forward Carter McCluskey from Grand Bay, NB who was taken in the 14th round of the 2019 QMJHL Entry Draft had an exceptional week at camp including a goal in his pre-season debut yesterday afternoon. The Sea Dogs will continue to follow his progress closely. Carter’s older brother Connor will continue on in camp.
Several players opted to retain their NCAA eligibility by leaving camp voluntarily including 2019 Sea Dogs draft picks Anthony Cliche (7th Rd) and Robert Orr (5th Rd).
Cliche, who participated in Hockey Canada’s U17 development camp this summer, toured Harbour Station with his family before departing and commented on his positive experience while here in Saint John.
“I feel lucky to have been drafted by the Sea Dogs. Thank you to the coaches and staff. It was an amazing experience to be a part of their camp.”
Brendan Sibley (D) and Yohan Plamondon (F) are not attending training camp and have elected to continue their careers at the Junior A level in order to play a larger role on their respective teams.
Overage defenceman Sacha Roy who was acquired by the Sea Dogs in the off-season has elected to no longer pursue his hockey career and will not be playing in the 2019-20 season.
Defenceman Kale McCallum signed with the team just prior to yesterday’s pre-season game. The full story on the signing of the Quispamsis product can be read here.
McCallum’s former Saint John Vito’s teammate Connor Richard suffered an upper body injury during Sunday’s game and is listed as day-to-day.
Saint John now has 20 forwards, 11 defencemen and four goalies remaining in camp.
